On June 30, 2010 the Greater Sudbury Police Service opened a new storefront in the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre at the corner of Elmview and Dominion Drives in Hanmer.
The new location takes over from the space in the fire hall on Leduc Avenue in Val Caron and is very bright, more spacious, and in a great location; a much more active and public place.
The new space is located at the rear of the complex and oversees numerous sports fields where in excess of 1,200 people attend a night. Civilian volunteers staff the office which serves as a base for officers working in the areas of Valley East and Capreol. Officers can drop by to conduct interviews and file reports instead of having to return to downtown. The location also serves as the headquarters for the Valley East Citizens on Patrol group (COPS).
The new storefront makes the police service more visible and accessible in the community.
